Boracay in September: Weather and Sea Conditions

In brief

September is still inside PAGASA’s rainy season, with 213.5 mm of rain at the Roxas City gauge and 382 mm in the model for Boracay. The Habagat (southwest monsoon) was already weakening by then in 2025, and PAGASA declared the Amihan (northeast monsoon) on 27 October.

  • Rain: 213.5 mm is the PAGASA normal for Roxas City, the nearest listed gauge; 382 mm is modelled for the island’s coordinates12.
  • Temperature (modelled for the island): mean 27.7 C, high 30.8 C, low 25.4 C, relative humidity 84%2.
  • Sea surface: about 29.5 C as a model mean, with hourly values from 28.8 to 30.7 C3.
  • Habagat: on 7 October 2025 PAGASA said it had been weakening for weeks and that the country was moving toward Amihan5.
  • Amihan: PAGASA declared its onset on 27 October 2025 and expected rough sea conditions and shear lines in the season6.

The detail

This page covers September on Boracay: the climate figures, where the southwest monsoon stands as the season turns, whether anything is scheduled, and what the arrivals reports say about crowds. It is part of When to Go to Boracay. August and October appear only for comparison; see Boracay in August and Boracay in October.

Weather in September

Boracay has no PAGASA station. The first rainfall column is the PAGASA climatological normal for Roxas City, Capiz, the nearest listed station, on a different coast of Panay1. The second is NASA POWER’s 2001-2020 climatology, a reanalysis model evaluated at the island’s coordinates and multiplied from a daily rate to a monthly total2. Temperatures and humidity are from that model. Sea-surface values are monthly means of hourly Open-Meteo model values for 2015-20243.

Month Rain, Roxas City gauge (mm) Rain, modelled for Boracay (mm) Mean daily high / low (C), modelled Sea surface (C), modelled mean
August 202.1 388 30.2 / 25.4 29.7
September 213.5 382 30.8 / 25.4 29.5
October 304.9 341 30.2 / 25.5 29.8

Sources disagree Going into October the two rainfall sources move in opposite directions. The Roxas City gauge rises from 213.5 to 304.9 mm, the wettest month of its year; the model falls from 382 to 341 mm12. In September the model figure is about 1.8 times the gauge figure. Roxas City is across Panay and the model is a smoothed grid-cell estimate, so neither is a measurement on the island. Plan for a wet month, and do not read September as the drier end of the season on the strength of either column alone.

The model’s mean daily high of 30.8 C is 0.6 C above August’s, and relative humidity is 84% against 85% in August2. PAGASA places June to November in the rainy season4. The PAGASA normals page describes the values as 30-year averages but does not name the years or label the rainfall unit; the figures behave as millimetres of monthly rainfall1.

Sea and wind

Boracay has two monsoons. Amihan is the northeast monsoon; Habagat is the southwest monsoon. GMA News reported the 2025 Habagat start as 30 May5. On 7 October 2025 PAGASA said the Habagat had been weakening for weeks and that the country was moving toward the Amihan season, to be declared in the coming weeks5. The declaration came on 27 October 2025, citing a surge of northeasterly winds over Extreme Northern Luzon, and PAGASA said rough sea conditions and shear lines were also expected in the season6. GMA also reported, on 7 October 2024, that PAGASA had declared that year’s Habagat season officially ended7. The sources used here give no 2026 declaration.

A University of the Philippines study models the island as oriented northwest to southeast. White Beach faces the southwesterly winds directly and Bulabog the northeasterly ones, so under southwest conditions the study finds higher wind and wave setup at White Beach and lower at Bulabog, and the reverse in northeast conditions8.

Boats between Caticlan and Boracay have been limited at Public Storm Warning Signal No. 111 and stopped at Signal No. 2910 in the cases found. Those storms fell in November and December; the sources used here date no September storm on the island. The signals and precedents are on typhoons and cancelled boats. The sources behind this page do not give a port for September: see the ports page.

What is on

The sources used for this page date no festival or programme on Boracay in September, so none is listed. Dated peaks elsewhere in the year are on Boracay peak dates.

Crowds

No arrivals report in the sources gives a September figure. The Malay tourism office recorded 1,040,847 tourists from 1 January to 15 June 2023, and January was the busiest month of that period at 177,86012. That says nothing about September, and this page does not call the month busy or quiet.

What to book ahead

Late September sits just before the handover to Amihan, which PAGASA declared on 27 October in 20256. For a trip at the end of the month, leave a spare day before any flight home from Caticlan; the Coast Guard decides on the day whether boats sail. Entry steps at the jetty port are in Boracay entry requirements.
