Editorial Policy and How We Research

This page explains how guides on boracay.biz are researched, written, checked and corrected.

Sources

Every factual claim on the site is traceable to a source listed at the end of the guide that makes it. Sources are used in this order of preference:

  1. Official Philippine government pages: national agencies, the Province of Aklan, the Municipality of Malay, and the official registration and weather services.
  2. Peer-reviewed studies and government science agencies.
  3. Established news reporting, for events and for facts no official page carries, cited for its own reporting.
  4. Operators’ own pages (a port, an airline, a hotel, a utility), for their own prices, schedules and services only.

Wikipedia, blogs and forums are not used as sources. Hotels are described by what their own pages state. The site does not publish reviews.

When sources disagree, the guide says so, cites both and shows both figures. A claim that cannot be verified is left out, and a title never asserts something the guide cannot source.

Local ordinances

Many Philippine local ordinances are not published online. Where a guide relies on news reports of an ordinance rather than its text, it says so, and it treats the figure as reported, not confirmed.

Facts that change

Fees, registration steps, ferry and flight schedules, rules and prices change. Guides state such facts as they stood on the date checked and phrase them so a reader knows to confirm before traveling. Every guide is re-checked at least every six months and carries an updated date.

What the site does not do

  • It does not publish first-hand accounts. The team is not on the island, and the guides make no claim of personal experience.
  • It does not review or rank hotels, restaurants or beaches.
  • It does not invent prices, distances, statistics or quotations. Where no source publishes a figure, the guide says so.
  • It does not accept payment for coverage. The affiliate relationship is disclosed on the affiliate disclosure page and in the guides where links appear.

Use of software and AI tools

Guides carry the byline Kai Mahal, which is the editorial byline of the boracay.biz team at the publisher, Webhaus LLC, not the name of one person. Research and drafting are done with the help of AI research and writing tools under the direction of that team. Every fact is traced to a cited source before publication, and each guide is checked against its sources and edited by a person. Webhaus LLC is responsible for everything published.

Corrections

Errors are corrected as soon as they are confirmed, and the guide’s updated date changes. To report one, use the contact page and include the page and the source that contradicts it.
