Getting Around Boracay: E-Trikes, the Hop-On Hop-Off Bus and Walking

In brief

Boracay’s main public transport is the electric tricycle, and a hop-on hop-off bus run by Southwest Tours covers the island from the Cagban port to Puka Beach. No official e-trike fare table is published online, so only the bus has prices you can plan around: PHP 300, 400 or 500 for one, two or three days of unlimited rides.

  • E-trikes were described as “the main modes of public transport” in a 2022 report, with a minimum fare of PHP 10 and a request to raise it by PHP 51.
  • The HOHO bus runs “between Cagban/Tambisaan Port and Puka Beach”, with stops including D’Mall, Bulabog, Diniwid and Balabag Lake3.
  • Unlimited-ride passes cost PHP 300 (1 day), PHP 400 (2 days) and PHP 500 (3 days); children 3 feet and under ride free4.
  • The provincial iPass site recommends the HOHO bus from Cagban to your hotel2.
  • White Beach is described as 4 km long and divided into three sections2.

The detail

How you get from the port to a hotel, and between areas of the island, is part of the plan. This page covers the two public options with sourced details, e-trikes and the hop-on hop-off bus, and what is known about walking. For the crossing that comes first, see Getting to Boracay.

The short answer

If you are… Do this
Going from the port to a hotel with luggage Use an e-trike or the HOHO bus; the iPass site recommends the bus from Cagban2.
Staying several days and moving between areas Compare the HOHO day passes with the cost of repeated e-trike rides.
Staying on one section of White Beach The beach is 4 km long in three sections, so check which section your hotel is in2.

E-trikes

A Panay News report of 29 August 2022 said “the main modes of public transport in Boracay Island are electric tricycles”1. The same report covered a transport cooperative’s request to the Malay Sangguniang Bayan, the town council, to raise the minimum fare from PHP 10 by PHP 5. It added that students, seniors and persons with disabilities keep fare discounts1. The sources used here do not say whether the increase was approved.

That is the only sourced fare. Neither the municipality nor any news report used here prints an official fare table by station or by distance, so a quoted price for a particular trip cannot be checked. Agree the fare before you board, and ask if the price is per person or for the whole vehicle.

The hop-on hop-off bus

The Hop-On Hop-Off (HOHO) bus is run by Southwest Tours. Its own site describes unlimited rides “between Cagban/Tambisaan Port and Puka Beach”, with stops including D’Mall, Puka Beach, Willy’s Rock, Bulabog, Diniwid and Balabag Lake3. A 2022 report mentions its air-conditioned buses using beep cards1.

Pass Price (operator’s pass page)
1 day (24 hours), unlimited PHP 300
2 days (48 hours), unlimited PHP 400
3 days (72 hours), unlimited PHP 500
Single pass, round trip to a drop-off point, two rides PHP 200

Children 3 feet and under ride free4. The operator’s FAQ says the card costs PHP 50 plus a PHP 50 load, is reloadable for up to one year, and is air-conditioned5. Cards can be claimed at Caticlan Airport Counter 5, the Caticlan Jetty Port lounge, the Southwest booth at Cagban Port and the sales office at Station 2 D’Mall, according to the booking page, which also offers free cancellation with at least 24 hours’ notice6.

Sources disagree The operator’s own pages differ on single rides and hours. The pass page lists PHP 200 for a round trip of two rides4; the FAQ says a single pass is PHP 50 one way and “flat 50 pesos” without a card5. The FAQ gives the first trip as 5 a.m. from Cagban Port and the last as 9 p.m. from Puka Beach, every 10 to 15 minutes5; the booking page gives operating hours of 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.6. Plan around the earlier closing time and confirm at the booth.

Walking

The iPass site describes White Beach as “4km long” and “divided into 3 sections”2. No source used here gives a measured walking distance or time between Station 1, Station 2 and Station 3, and this page does not estimate one. Treat any single number you meet online as unverified.
