In brief
Boracay works as a short workation stop, not an established remote-work base: nomads.com, as of 3 October 2026, ranks it #908 with a 10 Mbps average and an average stay of 6 days, against #29 and 38 Mbps for Siargao. Power cuts of 18 hours to two days in 2025 and no confirmed standalone coworking space add to the case for short stays.

- Comparison: Siargao scores 3.96 of 5 and averages 38 Mbps; Cebu scores 3.4 and averages 10 Mbps; Boracay scores 2.98145.
- Power: nomads.com rates Boracay’s power grid “Great”, which the news record contradicts178.
- Coworking: nomads.com counts two spaces without naming them; no standalone coworking space could be confirmed36.
- Cost: nomads.com puts the monthly cost for a nomad at US$1,940, against US$1,462 for Siargao and US$1,854 for Cebu245.

The detail
This page collects what can be sourced about working online from Boracay: the nomad-site figures, the internet providers’ own claims, the power record and the coworking picture. The figures from nomads.com are that site’s own scores, reported as its figures, and not independent measurements. For the power background see How Boracay gets its electricity, and for SIMs see SIM cards and eSIMs for Boracay.
The short answer
| If you are… | Do this |
|---|---|
| Working a week or two from the island | Plan on mobile data as a second connection and ask your hotel about backup power first (see what to ask) |
| Needing a stable connection for calls every day | Compare Siargao’s higher nomads.com average, but note its page also reports frequent power cuts4 |
| Looking for a coworking space | Do not book around one; none could be confirmed |
| Staying for months | The nomads.com figures describe a short-stay destination: 6-day average trip, 5 percent return rate12 |

Power: the nomad score and the news
Sources disagree nomads.com’s “Power Grid” field says “Great” for Boracay1. The news record shows a blackout of at least 18 hours on 4-5 May 2025 and one of about two days on 13-15 September 202578. Siargao also carries a “Great” rating, while its own page text says power cuts, blackouts and brownouts are common there and that some coworking spaces have Starlink and generators4. The field does not separate these places, so do not use it to judge reliability. Plan around the news record, detailed in Boracay power outages in 2025 and 2026.
The practical reading follows from the dates. A work day lost to a daytime cut is a different problem from a 48-hour outage. Before booking, ask the property whether it has a generator, whether it starts automatically, whether it runs air conditioning and Wi-Fi, and for how many hours. A message to send is in Do Boracay hotels have backup generators?.
Internet and mobile: what providers and officials say
No independent speed test for Boracay appears in the sources used here, so the figures above are the best available and are survey-based. The other evidence is dated or comes from the companies:
- Government, 2022. The secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology said in 2022 that internet access on the island was slow, and announced a “WiFi For All” plan. No speeds were given9.
- Converge, 2023. Converge launched fiber broadband on Boracay in May 2023 for homes, small businesses and enterprises. Its chief executive called the offering better than competitors’, which is a company claim10.
- Globe, 2025. Globe said in a release reported in May 2025 that it had more than 30 outdoor 5G sites on the island. That is Globe’s own claim11.
- Starlink, 2022. The National Telecommunications Commission registered Starlink in the Philippines in May 2022, with advertised download speeds of 100 to 200 Mbps. The report is national; it does not say how Starlink performs or is used on Boracay12.
Whether a given hotel’s Wi-Fi matches any of this is a question for the hotel. A hotel’s claim of a Wi-Fi standard is not a speed.
Coworking: nothing confirmed
No standalone coworking space on Boracay could be confirmed. nomads.com says there are two and lists a hot desk at US$153 a month, quoting a reviewer; the names are not given on the page3. Baybayin Hub, a company that appears in nomad guides, describes itself on its own site as a retreat and events organizer. It lists a Boracay workation retreat for 22 to 29 May 2026 and shows no permanent coworking space and no Starlink mention6. A retreat is an event with dates, not a place to walk into on a Tuesday.
Siargao and Cebu in short
Siargao scores higher on every nomads.com measure above, and its page reports frequent power cuts and says some coworking spaces run Starlink and generators4. Cebu averages 10 Mbps like Boracay, is ranked #210 and is described on its page as slow5. For access, season and arrivals, see the Boracay or Siargao comparison.
